    In Tehillim, King David writes, “For You [God] do not desire sacrifices; else I would give it: You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”

    Likewise in the Talmud it says, “Words that emanate from the heart – enter the heart.”  These verses are inviting us to remember that what breaks, breaks open. 

    King David used a harp to compose the Tehillim. The Talmud teaches that  a harp hung above his bed, and at midnight a northern wind would blow on the five strings, waking him from his sleep to study Torah until dawn. In the Zohar, the five strings parallel the five books of Torah and it was on these strings that David composed much of Tehillim. Since song is at the center of all our rituals, and singing is the unifying element of communal prayer, there is something vital in these verses of Tehilim, waiting to be rediscovered. What’s at the center is the most holy, just like the holy of holies, which was placed at the center of the Temples in Jerusalem. What if we placed Tikkun Haklali at the center of our prayers and of our lives?

    These 10 verses of Tehillim, and the meaning behind them, have the power to mend the brokenness within and enable a true light of shelaymut (wholeness) to shine out from deep within your soul.

    Tikkun Haklali holds within it incredibly deep and potent healing that is needed in the world today. It’s time to revitalize it.

    We will be commissioning 10 artists to create 10 pieces for this Tikkun HaKlali collector series.

    My mom was born in 47, and would have been 74 today. I miss her every second. She taught Talmud to women, made sculptures, painted, played accordion and became a partner/CPA at a firm in DC .. I mean, she was a badass Yemenite Jewess, and I see her in my kids and I’m thankful for that. I can’t not tear up just writing even this little bit about her.  I’m just trying to stay in the @dontblockyourblessings and @thelightofinfinite space as much as it’s possible, as it’s been helped heal my broken heart. I learned almost everything from my mom, by just seeing how she navigated and loved the journey of it all.     That Yemenite Kid

    My Great-grandfather (Saba Shelomo, pictured here with my mom and Savta) and my Grandfather (Saba Shalom pictured with his wife Yedida) passed away on the same day, and their אזכרה (Yahrtzeit) is tonight!  Their names & dates are Saba Shalom ben Shelomo Zipor z”l  25 Tammuz 5760 // Saba HaGadol Shelomo ben Salah Safar z”l, 25 Tammuz 5744. I have so many memories of Saba Shalom, but hearing from my uncle (סיימון אורגד ציפור) and sister about how he came to pass away on the same day as his father blew me away. My sister told me that he waited so that he wouldn’t be burdensome to anyone. He wanted his אזכרה (Yahrtzeit) to be the same as his father’s so that no one would have to go out of their way for him, which was his personality. My uncle explained …

    This month is devoted to mental health and breaking the stigma of struggling with it. Now, more than ever, we need to show love and empathy to each other. The Tzemach Tzedek (1789–1866) taught us to think of ourselves as vessels for blessings. He would say in Yiddish, “Tracht gut, vet zein gut” which translates as “Think good, and it will be good.” Literally, the act of believing in a blessing is the vessel for receiving it. Getting your mind, body, and spirit into the mode of preparing for and accepting blessings, living with complete faith that they will come– that is how you receive blessings. The converse is also true, making it that much more important to focus on the good. Each of us has the power to uplift those around us. Rebbe Nachman of Breslov said, “With happiness, …

    This weekly Light of Infinite project began on the Yartzeit (yearly memorial) of my ex wife’s mother’s passing, and it’s inspired by both her (Yehudis Chava bat Yakov Dov) and my mother (Frida Levona bat Shalom), who passed the same year. When I think of these women, I think of tzedaka and chesed, words that are hard to translate because they capture the real depths of words like ‘generous’, ‘giving’, ‘loving’, and ‘kindness’. These two women embodied and exemplified these qualities to an angelic degree: so full of life, love, warmth, and light, at every turn, every single moment. Being around them inspired me to be more loving, more giving, more full of a zest for each moment in life. My goal with this ongoing project is to spread that inspiration and Light that I received and still receive from …
